Pasta Bridge

October, 2013 - November, 2013

Summary

To build a bridge out of only spaghetti and glue that:

  •  spans at least  a meter,

  • supports the heaviest load suspended from the center of the span.

  • The bridge is to be supported only by horizontal surfaces at each end.

  • The group decided to build a Truss Bridge.

  • Bucatini Spaghetti  was  the chosen material.

  • Each strand of the spaghetti was glued together into triangle shape to ease calculation and predict load limit.

  • Epoxy Resin was used to glue each strand as it can be applied at room temperature and in relatively small amounts with a short curing time.

  • The bridge was cut by using handsaw.

  • The bridge is weighted around 860 grams

  • The maximum weight that our bridge could hold up before collapsed is 10 kg.
